• Bachelor's programmes (3-4 years, 180-240 ECTS credits) and Master's programmes (1-2 years, 60-120 ECTS credits). Training and further education for teachers.
• Qualified teacher status for the type of education selected, upon successful completion of the teacher training programme.
• Types of qualified teacher status available: Primary School (Primary level) and Secondary School (Compulsory Secondary School, Vocational School, Academic Secondary School (AHS), College For Higher Vocational Education (BHS). 

General

Training is organised by age group (primary or secondary level) and not by type of school. Teacher training programmes for secondary level general education are offered jointly by universities and University Colleges of Teacher Education in four network regions (North-East, South-East, Centre and West).

The curricula of the programmes provide for courses in general educational science fundamentals, elementary and primary level pedagogy and didactics or in subjects that correspond to teaching subjects, subject areas or subject clusters. It is also possible to specialise in subjects such as inclusive education, special and remedial education, social pedagogy, vocational orientation, multilingualism and media education.

Successful completion of the entire teacher training programme leads to a qualified teacher status for the type of education selected.

The next step:

The following options, amongst others, are available to leavers following successful completion of a programme at a University College of Teacher Education: 

• Immediate employment as a teacher: graduates will be inducted into the teaching profession by way of a year-long “induction phase”, supported by mentors.
• Following successful completion of a Master's degree programme: doctoral studies at a university.
• Attendance at courses for continuing and higher-level qualifications.
